Circus Body Consultations with Simone Lukas-Jogl

What is a Circus Body Consult?

A Circus Body Consult is an opportunity to explore your body’s current state of ‘cirqueability’ and to acquire tailored tools to address specific issues or to improve your body’s capacities.

A Circus Body Consult can

  • focus on a specific area of concern, such as shoulders or back. We can work with a preventative focus – how do I keep my shoulders safe? - or with a rehab focus, if there is an old / persistent injury. A circus body consult does NOT take the place of medical treatment, where that may be necessary, but it can help when conventional medical treatment has not rehabbed you to circus standards. After all, as circus artists, we need to do a lot of things that are way beyond ‘the norm.’

  • be designed around a specific goal, such as improving core stability, improving alignment, developing greater fluidity of movement, or creating your personal body-prep routine.

  • develop a safe and individualized program to ‘push the envelope’ – need to open your shoulder angle? want better leg lines with safe hyperextension and a better toe point? would love to ‘unlock’ your upper back? Often, limitations of your body structure are not set in stone. In addition to specific tools, having some anatomical understanding and a developed ‘felt sense’ of your body helps keep you safe when you explore your boundaries. A Circus Body Consult can help you develop all three.

What you will get:

  • a phone call before your consult to clarify your goals

  • a structural assessment of your body’s alignment, range of motion, and strengths and weaknesses as pertain to your area of concern. For aerialists, this can include a detailed hanging / climbing evaluation.

  • specific tools for your personal ‘toolbox’ to address your goal. These tools are usually a combination of strength-building drills, specific stretches and coordination-building movement explorations, which are designed to improve the mechanics of your body.

  • hands-on body work if needed. (this may be the case in particular if we are rehabbing an old injury or a severe structural limitation. If a lot of body work is needed, Simone will suggest to do the consult in my office in Pawtucket and time will be charged separately)

  • an email with descriptions and/or videos of your ‘tools.’

  • a discount on a half-hour follow up lesson (if desired) to check progress and update your personal toolbox.
